Baseball cleat outsoles
The type of outsole you’ll need will depend on the type of surface you’ll be playing on. Outsoles are designed to give you the traction and support you need to perform at the highest level. Baseball cleats come in four variations: molded, metal, interchangeable, and turf — you may need two sets of baseball shoes with different outsoles to account for home and away surfaces.
Molded baseball cleats have studs that are most often rubber or TPU. These studs dig into the playing surface to give you traction and stability. Molded baseball cleats are easy to maintain, making them a popular choice for first-time baseball cleat buyers. All baseball leagues and organizations allow molded baseball cleats for play.
Metal baseball cleats are used by baseball players from high school to professional. Metal cleats dig deep into soft ground, allowing for quicker starts and stops and more precise pivots. Metal cleats offer the best traction on grass and hard surfaces. Before wearing metal baseball cleats, make sure that your league allows them. If your league approves metal baseball cleats, take advantage of them — they offer excellent traction for lateral movement. If you’re not sure of your league’s cleat rules, check with your coach or a league official.
Baseball training/turf shoes are versatile and can be used for workouts, batting practice, indoor practices, and turf play since they have an outsole that can be used outdoors and on gym floors. Coaches often favor the versatility of baseball training shoes, and therefore these shoes are sometimes called “coaches shoes.” If you are a coach looking to purchase baseball shoes, we recommend buying baseball training or turf shoes.
Baseball cleat profiles
Baseball shoes come in two basic silhouettes: mid and low. The choice is entirely dependent on your needs — mid-cut shoes provide better ankle support, while low-cut cleats offer better flexibility and are more light weight. Most customers prefer the low-profile cleats for freedom of movement.
