Jordan Retro 7: No Swoosh Necessary

When the Air Jordan 7 burst onto the scene in 1992, it continued to push Jordan sneakers into the forefront of basketball and mainstream culture. There was one major difference, though. The Air Jordan 7 was the first Jordan shoe that didn’t feature a visible Nike logo anywhere on the outside of the shoe.

There was still Nike branding on the inside of the shoe, but from the outside it was all about the Jumpman. The popularity of the Air Jordan 7 led to hot retro releases decades after the shoe’s original debut. Now, the Retro 7 represented a major step toward Jordan growing into the giant that it is today.

A famous cartoon bunny teamed up with Michael Jordan to advertise the shoe, and soon the legendary kick took off. While MJ’s carrot-eating cartoon friend helped the shoe enter the world of pop culture, Jordan was busy dominating the court in the new sneaker. Jordan won his second straight championship in the AJ 7. He also wore the shoe during the summer of 1992 while playing with the team that is now dubbed “The Greatest Team Ever Assembled.”

The Retro 7 is one of those shoes that is so popular because of all the history that is associated with it. The year 1992 was huge for Michael Jordan, both in terms of on-court success and in the mainstream pop culture. While MJ’s career continued toward legendary status, this was the shoe that accompanied him along the way.

Michael Jordan’s growing list of accomplishments, and this shoe not featuring Nike branding on the outside, meant it arrived at a pivotal point in MJ’s career. It wasn’t the beginning and it wasn’t even close to the end.

Instead, this shoe arrived in the center of Michael’s first three-peat. Michael Jordan was already accomplished, but he was right on the cusp of exploding into the legendary figure we’ve come to know and love today.

While all of that was happening for Michael, the now-iconic Retro 7 was right there with him. And that’s why the Retro 7 is a must-have for any Jordan fan. Pick up yours today.
