New Beginnings

In 1924 Adi Dassler committed his life to providing athletes with the best possible equipment and created his company, called the “Gebrüder Dassler, Schuhfabrik”. Shortly after, he saw his first career milestone when Lina Radke (1928, Amsterdam) and Jesse Owens (1936, Berlin) won Olympic gold medals wearing his shoes.

On Aug. 18, 1949, Adi Dassler completely started over and created the “Adi Dassler adidas Sportschuhfabrik” as well as the shoe that featured the famous 3-Stripes design. This innovation carried him to global success after the West German national football team won the 1954 World Cup wearing the 3-Stripes cleats with screw-in studs. This made adidas a household name around the world.

From this point forward, adidas gained the trust of athletes and a massive fan base. Focusing on athletes’ needs mixed with continuous innovation made adidas one of the most trusted brands on the market for decades.

After the death of Adi Dassler in 1978, his son, Horst Dassler took the company and carried on the family tradition of excellence. Constantly innovating, adidas had success putting new technology in shoes, which included the adidas miCoach in 1984. Ahead of its time, the system provided performance statistics to athletes.

Another monumental moment for adidas was its collaboration with hip-hop group Run DMC. The famous trio’s hit song “My adidas” highlighted sneaker culture and their love for their adidas, all while wearing the Superstar. The mutual respect the two entities had for each other blossomed into the first non-athletic sporting good promotion, which changed the industry forever.

Modern Times

adidas continues to work with artists and athletes to create the best possible products. A sub-division of adidas, adidas Originals, spun off in 1997 as a separate branch that focuses on lifestyle and fashion products. From celebrities to cultural figures, adidas Originals commonly collaborates with some of the world’s most captivating people. For example, Kanye West and adidas Originals came together to create the renowned YEEZY. Other collaborators include Pharrell Williams, Alexander Wang, and Palace Skateboards.

adidas makes shoes and apparel for any of your sporting needs. Signature athletes from around the world include James Harden and Damian Lillard (basketball), Von Miller and Patrick Mahomes (football), Lionel Messi (soccer), Kris Bryant (baseball), Sidney Crosby (hockey), and many more.

Some of the most popular products that adidas has put out are the adidas Ultraboost, and adidas NMD, in addition to the adidas Originals Superstar that Run DMC made famous. These have become modern icons and continuously get new colorways and designs.

While adidas is famous for its shoes, it also carries T-shirts, sweatpants, and other apparel that appeals to both modern athletes and streetwear enthusiasts.
