Nothin' But Net
With his mind always on the goal, Will Bruin is a forward who likes to get down to business. In fact, he sent the ball to the back of the net 16 times last season, a club record in Houston. "I'm a forward, so my job is to score goals. I like to describe myself as a hybrid forward, because I'm big enough to hold the ball up, but I have the speed to get in behind the defense." As a hybrid forward, Will looks to the adidas Predator LZ TRX to get the job done. "The new adidas Predator definitely helps my game by bringing a good first touch, but it also has the ability to withstand the power aspect of the game."
Will's Predators give him Will Power, as he constantly pushes himself to be better than the game before. "My mindset sets me apart from most guys," he says. "I always want to prove to myself that I can do better. I hold my standards pretty high and I think it's good to have that self-motivation. If I perform day in and day out, and I produce here in Houston, I'll have more opportunities in the future."
Will doesn't just happen upon these potential opportunities, though. If you're looking for your own big break, Will gave us some advice. "You can't sell yourself short. If you want to play at the next level, it's going to take hard work. You can't think that it's going to come easy and that things are going to be given to you. If you have that belief in yourself and are self-motivating, then I think you'll be able to achieve that next level."
To fully understand Will's dedication to success, you have to go back to the beginning, when Will was putting his time in on every field possible. "My recruiting process was a whirlwind," he continued. "I played my high school soccer and club. Going to these club soccer tournaments, you get exposure to college coaches. The more exposure you get, the more chances you're going to have at playing in college."
Looking to gain some opportunities of your own? Will gave us a few more tips for a stellar performance on the field. If you're aiming for a win, keep your mind clear the morning before the game, chill out to some country music in the locker room, and never, ever, change your shinguards if you're on a scoring streak.
