What is an RSS feed?
An RSS feed (or news feed) is information a website chooses to publish or syndicate to an RSS Reader. The feed alerts you to when the website has added new content. Basically, it allows you to get the latest headlines and information at one source as soon as it's published without having to visit every one of your favorite websites every day! Think of it as a 21st-century upgrade from the old-fashioned ticker-tape news wire machines.

The most common definition of RSS is “Really Simple Syndication,” although other definitions have been used. All RSS feeds have a link back to the website so you can click on the link to read the full details at the site.

What is an RSS reader?
RSS readers (or news aggregators) subscribe or "talk to" the RSS feeds. The information the website syndicates is downloaded into your RSS reader. There are many different reader versions, some are downloaded right to your desktop and some are accessed using your browser.

Different RSS readers work on different operating systems. Make sure to choose one that will work with your computer. Google and Yahoo! both provide a frequently updated list of RSS readers. Some commonly used readers include:

My Yahoo! - my.yahoo.com (Web Based, All platforms)
Google - www.google.com (Web Based, All platforms)
Bloglines - bloglines.com (Web Based, All platforms)
NewsGator - www.newsgator.com (an Outlook plugin for Windows)
SharpReader - www.sharpreader.com (Windows)
RSS Reader - www.rssreader.com (Windows .NET)
NetNewsWire - ranchero.com/netnewswire (Mac OS X)
