REEBOK

In 1890, Joseph William Foster was manufacturing regular running shoes when he came up with an idea to put spikes on the bottom of a shoe for running track. In 1895, he partnered with his sons and founded a running shoe company under the name of J.W. Foster and Sons. In 1958, Foster's grandsons Joe and Jeff renamed the company Reebok, after a type of African gazelle. They discovered the name in a South African dictionary Joe won in a childhood race.

Reebok came into prominence in the early 1980s, thanks to the introduction of the Freestyle training shoe specifically designed for women participating in the aerobics fitness craze. The Reebok Freestyle was popular not only as athletic wear but also as a casual shoe because of its styling and comfort.
