Carmelo Kyam Anthony, nicknamed "Melo", was born in the Red Hook Projects of Brooklyn, New York. After playing basketball at Baltimore's Towson Catholic High School and Oak Hill Academy, Anthony attended Syracuse University where he led his team to the 2003 National Championship. He left college for the pros after his freshman year and was drafted with the third pick by Denver. Since turning pro, Melo has been named to the All-Rookie team, as well as the NBA All-Star and all-league teams five times. In 2009, Anthony and the Nuggets advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 1985. In 2011, Melo was traded to the New York Knicks. In his first two full seasons in New York, he was named to the All-NBA Third Team and Second Team, respectively.
