There are three types of track and field shoes: track spikes, throwing shoes, and racing flats. Track spikes are lightweight running shoes with spiked elements screwed into the outsole, or spike plate, to improve traction when running, throwing, or jumping. There are four different types of track spikes: sprint (for 100-400 meters), middle distance (for 400-1,500 meters), long distance (for 1,500-10,000 meters), and event spikes (for the javelin throw, the long jump, and the high jump). Racing flats are for those times when track spikes are not allowed. Throwing shoes are designed for the shot put, discus, and hammer field events. Instead of a spike plate, throwing shoes will have a smooth bottom for the spin technique or a textured rubber outsole for the glide technique. Here at Eastbay, we offer a full line of track shoes from trusted brands like Nike, adidas, ASICS®, Brooks, Saucony, and more. Head to the finish in track shoes from Eastbay!
