ReebokIn 1890, Joseph William Foster was manufacturing regular running shoes when he came up with an idea to put spikes on the bottom of a shoe for running track. In 1895, he partnered with his sons and founded a running shoe company under the name of J.W. Foster and Sons.
In 1958, Foster's grandsons Joe and Jeff renamed the company Reebok, after a type of African gazelle. They discovered the name in a South African dictionary Joe won in a childhood race.
Reebok came into prominence in the early 1980s, thanks to the introduction of the Freestyle training shoe specifically designed for women participating in the aerobics fitness craze. The Reebok Freestyle was popular not only as athletic wear but also as a casual shoe because of its styling and comfort.
Reebok shoes with ZigTech technology are designed to conserve and return energy to the athlete and provide a soft, springy ride. The ZigTech outsole features an innovative, lightweight foam that is engineered into a zig-zag shaped sole that absorbs the impact of heel strike and sends a wave of energy along the length of the shoe, propelling the athlete forward with each step.
RealFlex shoes feature 76 independent "sensors" on the outsole that are strategically positioned to adapt to all training surfaces. These "sensors" work together throughout the runner's stride, promoting natural movement and flexibility. RealFlex promotes and enhances natural movement in a way that allows the athlete to move the way nature intended. The result is a shoe that delivers all the benefits of barefoot running with the protection of a traditional running shoe.
